Every day, thousands of passengers – including many children – travel on school buses and other passenger vehicles. In the event of an accident or fire, the vehicle must be evacuated quickly and safely. Aware of this challenge, AGUILA, based in the Basque country in France, has developed a turnkey solution integrating APEM safety switches and switch guards, designed to meet the new requirements of the European regulation UNECE R107 10 series, which will come into force in 2026.
BREAKEE, the electronic hammer that saves precious seconds
Traditionally, buses are equipped with mechanical hammers to break windows in emergencies. But their effectiveness depends on the strength and composure of the passengers – two conditions rarely met in critical situations.
With BREAKEE, AGUILA offers a technological breakthrough guaranteeing:
centralized control: the driver can remotely activate all electronic hammers or deactivate them in the event of malicious acts,
an intuitive window-breaking system that can be used effortlessly,
faster passenger evacuation.
With APEM, a clear and secure driver interface
To guarantee both ergonomics and uncompromising reliability, AGUILA relies on APEM components. KR toggle switches and 600 rocker switches – with their MSG switch guards that prevent accidental activation – are integrated into the driver's PAD, enabling:
real-time monitoring of the window-breaking system,
functional testing of the electronic hammers directly from the cab,
immediate action in an emergency.
These robust components, already UTAC-certified, provide the driver with a reliable and intuitive interface, meeting the most demanding standards in the automotive sector.
